Assignment: Help Connect With EMU

The assignment that helped me with my connection with EMU was the Majors and Careers project. This project had us look up a certain major that we showed interest in, and described our interest in the subject, how to graduate with that degree, and the current jib market for people in that field.

I selected this assignment, because it has you look at the programs that EMU has to offer, but more in depth. This assignment had you look ahead to the next four years of school and create a plan of action for that time. With this, we he had to use resources that EMU has to offer, which brings us to a stronger connection the university.

This assignment definitely prepared me for my future at EMU, because that is exactly what the point of the assignment was. But I really do feel better about what lies ahead, because it is all out in front of me.

Assignment: Develop Critical Thinking Skills

The assignment that I chose that helped me improve my critical thinking skills was my concert report for Music Appreciation, especially the one on the concert that wasn't LBC approved, which was allowed only once. The concert report assignment has us go to a concert or performance and study the music for its composition, feeling, instrumental parts, effectiveness, etc.

The idea for the concert report assignment was to have us go to a performance and pick out the artistic themes and methods that the musicians used. I selected this assignment for this topic because while you sit at the concert, you had to keep your brain running so you could pick out the important parts of the performance. The focus and the thinking that was used to complete this assignment, was much greater than I thought.

This assignment not only helped me appreciate music more, but also helped me think on a different plane; a plane that thinks about what is going on in a certain situation, and how to interpret it.

Assignment: Facilitate the Transition to College Life

The assignment that helped me by facilitating my transition from high school life to college life was the MBTI Reflective Essay we wrote in Intro to the University. The MBTI was a survey style test that was used to help us understand our own personalities and how we could use them to find our passion in careers.

I selected this assignment because a lot of people enter college life confused and overwhelmed with expectations and stereotypes. This test was designed to inform students who take it, what their underlying personality is and how they can flourish with the way they act, or how comfortable they are, in certain situations.

This assignment personally did not help me much for my future in college, because the results that I received were quite predictable. I already knew my personality and how to utilize it in the future. I am not discrediting this test, because it is always nice to have a reminder of who I am and what I want to do in the future.

Assignment: Enhanced My Academic Skills

The assignment that I chose that reflects my enhanced academic skills is the informative speech that I had to do in speech class. The speech required us to gather information through various resources and compile them into a speech that flows nicely with great transitions and public speaking skills. I did mine on stress and how it effects the brain and the body, and how to reduce it. I figured it would be useful to college students.

 

I selected this assignment in particular, because it really utilized my information gathering skills as well as my writing and speaking skills. The whole point of this assignment was to show the class what you know about a particular subject through public speaking.

 

This was my first speech that I did in this class, and I learned so much while doing it. It was a great assignment to do at the beginning of the year because "informing" an audience is very straightforward, but also utilizes the skills we would need for the rest of the semester, year, college, life.
